Welcome to On & Off the Rack, a monthly edit featuring Tibi’s new arrivals, sale items, and fundamentals selected and styled by me. (It owes its name to The New Yorker’s “On & Off the Avenue” column, humorous chatter on the heres and theres of New York City.)
The purpose of these stories is to visually capture how our clothes can be worn. Things to get your mind going and let you into mine—the French museumgoers who showed me how to layer, Cary Grant’s inspirational style, breaking the menswear rules, how Hip-Hop’s infectious bravado has influenced the way I wear a garment, to name a few.
As this column develops, I invite you to share your perspectives on style, as informed by your passions, things that have left a strong impression on you. Do you have a relative who always seems to look put together for everything from a ceremony to a cookout? Was there a character in a book whose style made you think about clothes differently? Did you take an art history or theory course that changed the way you understand color? These are the kinds of things we want to hear. And who knows…it could be included in one of these dispatches!
The minute I saw our winter capsule 2026 collection I knew what would work for me. Friend of the brand Sid Simons took the navy satin plisse shirt with him to Paris for our Abel perfume launch event. It takes a certain kind of assurance to pull that off as a guy, which he did, though I suspect he doesn’t see it as an audacious choice given his style. That said, I’ve coordinated some other options that work well with the basics in a man’s wardrobe.
